Magnetometer

Definition: A magnetometer is a device that measures a surrounding magnetic field (e.g., the Earth’s magnetic field). Magnetometers are often included in inertial measurement units where they are used as the heading reference and to define the orientation of an object with respect to the Earth. Pairing a magnetometer with an accelerometer and gyroscope can improve the identification and removal of motion artifacts. Magnetic field strength is measured in micro Tesla (muT).
