Rest period

Definition: Rest period refers to the intervals of time during an experimental task when the participant is not performing any task or processing stimuli. In experimental designs, rest periods often separate different blocks of an experimental task. During rest, baseline or resting state activation is being measured, and is typically used as a comparison for analyzing brain activation during a task or stimulation.
