Definition: A stimulus is an intentionally introduced event or object by the experimenter that is presented to the participant and is aimed at being detected, requiring a reaction, or influencing the participant in some way. It is typically designed to elicit a specific response or to observe the impact on the participant’s behavior, perception, physiology or cognition.
