Channel
Definition: A channel is a measurement point that the system is capable of recording from. In the special case of fNIRS, a channel is defined as the area between a light source and a detector, and is often visually depicted as the midpoint of the two and at a depth of approximately half of the source-detector distance. The source-detector distance categorizes a channel as a typical long-separation fNIRS channel (reflecting cortical activation changes and changes in systemic physiology) or a short-separation/short-distance channel (primarily reflecting changes in skin perfusion).
