Cortex
Definition: Cortex refers to the outermost, superficial layer of some organs (e.g. the brain but also the kidney). The brain’s cortex is referred to as cerebral cortex, and it is often the target of fNIRS investigations. The cortex of the cerebellum is referred to as cerebellar cortex.
