Head circumference

Definition: The measurement (usually in cm) of a participant’s head diameter at the level of the nasion (the midpoint between the eyes, just above the nose bridge), the inion (the external occipital protuberance at the base of the skull) and the tragi (cartilage at the ear entrance) of the ears. Head circumference is usually assessed with a tape measure and is crucial for selecting the correct cap size for the participant. This information can also be used in head modeling processes.
