Reflection

Definition: Reflection refers to the mirroring of radiation at an interface between two media with different characteristic impedance (refractive index in optics). A distinction is made between specular reflection from smooth surfaces, in which the radiation is emitted at the same angle at which it is incident, and diffuse reflection from rough surfaces, in which the radiation is diffusely scattered. Diffuse reflection is driven by light that penetrated into the medium and then re-emerged after multiple scattering
